How Storm Damage Cleanup Treats All Areas of Your Morristown, NJ Home

December 26th, 2018 · No Comments

Storms are often accompanied by heavy rainfalls which can cause considerable damage to homes in Morristown, NJ. If your home has been affected by a storm, it’s time to contact the storm damage cleanup professionals at ServiceMaster Metropolitan. Our technicians are experienced in a variety of disaster scenarios and can restore every affected area of your home, regardless of the type or severity of the damage.

Unfortunately, not everything can be saved. Sometimes damage is severe enough to require replacement of certain items or materials. Today, we’re going to look at how our storm damage cleanup professionals determine what to discard and what we can save.

Linoleum & Vinyl Tiles

If water damage has caused tiles to curl up, we will have to replace them.

If the tiles have been installed over a wooden floor, we’ll have to remove the tiles to allow the wood to dry, otherwise mold and mildew can begin to form.

Carpets

If your carpets have absorbed a significant amount of water, or if the water is dirty, we’ll have to remove them. We’ll also remove damaged wooden baseboards.

Plaster/Drywall

Storms can bring water contaminated by dirt, bacteria, and other foreign elements into your home. Removing these contaminates can be difficult, and if left untreated, they can lead to health problems and persistent, noxious odors. If plaster or drywall has been exposed to water, it will have to be removed and replaced.

For example, if a room is flooded and the damage extends up to two and a half feet, we’ll remove the damaged materials up to four feet from the floor. This is required because plaster and/or drywall can become saturated and soak the water up beyond the waterline.

However, if the flooding exceeds over two and a half feet, our team will have to remove the drywall and/or plaster up to a height of eight feet to ensure all the damaged material is safely and thoroughly eliminated.

Wall Insulation

Different types of insulation react to water differently. We’ll use our expertise to determine what type of insulation is in your home and whether or not it needs to be discarded.

For example, if our storm damage cleanup technicians find foam insulation, we know it can be successfully and thoroughly dried. If the insulation is fibrous, it will have to be removed.
